Rehabilitation

Physical Therapy
Our physical therapists focus on empowering residents who are struggling with physical impairments causing lack of mobility, pain and risk of future injury. They use a variety of techniques including hands-on therapy, strength and conditioning, stretching exercises, electrical stimulation, ultrasound and much more.
Our physical therapists work with residents who suffer from back and neck injuries, fractures, neurological disorders, work or sports-related injuries, and other conditions. Following an evaluation, the physical therapist develops an individualized treatment program depending on the injury, severity, and resident’s goals

Areas Of Treatment Focus May Include:
Increasing strength and mobility in the body and lower extremities
Increasing motor control for residents who have suffered a stroke
Improving coordination, balance, and the ability to walk following an injury
Improving overall strength conditioning and endurance
Teaching pain management techniques
Teaching proper body mechanics to prevent injury
Assisting and training patients with the use of equipment such as wheelchairs or walkers
Advising the resident and family about in-home treatment options and exercise

Occupational Therapy
Our occupational therapists use task-directed activities in the treatment of our residents whose ability to function has been impaired by illness, injury, emotional or psychological problems or normal aging. We work on improving their ability to complete activities related to both work and life using a holistic approach. Therapeutic activities assist our residents in adapting to their social and physical environment by helping them master tasks essential for daily living. Our occupational therapists may work with our residents who have debilitating arthritic conditions or those with difficulty bathing, dressing, and other activities of daily living. They assist our residents with impaired vision and/or hearing to function well in their environment and create a therapy plan and set goals designed by the residents’ needs.

AREAS OF THERAPY FOCUS MAY INCLUDE:
Functional independence in activities of daily living after illness or injury – Functional training on eating, bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, homemaking, and medication management
Prevention of further injuries - Assessing a Resident’s home and/or work environment and recommending adaptations to fit the patient’s needs and improve independence
Increasing safety awareness – Educating patients with energy conservation techniques, proper body mechanics and using adaptive equipment or assistive technology

Speech therapy
Our speech therapists provide a continuum of services including assessment, education, and treatment for language, voice, articulation, and fluency disorders. Our treatment programs are directed towards improving communication skills and safe swallowing. We assist in rehabilitating residents who struggle with comprehension, memory, processing and expression abilities. We also instruct the resident or the caregiver in techniques ranging from head positioning to promoting safe swallowing at a slower rate to clearer speech. We also teach residents how to compensate if they cannot achieve their prior level of performance. Residents admitted to the facility who are receiving nutrition partially or exclusively via a gastrostomy tube are evaluated for their potential to return to solid foods.

SPEECH THERAPISTS WORK TO RESTORE THE FOLLOWING ABILITIES:
Safe chewing and swallowing practices
Speech and voice clarity
Comprehension and verbal expression and use of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication ) as needed
Cognitive language skills, like memory, problem-solving, and abstract reasoning
Resident and family / caregiver education and training for managing ongoing difficulties with communication, cognition, and swallowing.
